Farmhouse shabby chic bedroom furniture is one of the most popular themes currently popular with interior designers. The unique style creates a cozy, old-fashioned feel, perfect for a girl’s dream bedroom. Farmhouse shabby chic includes items such as an old-fashioned dresser, French Country vanity, vintage armoires and a vintage wooden bed. You will also want to use items that coordinate with your overall color scheme. The following guide offers farmhouse shabby chic bedroom design tips to help you achieve the look you love.
Choosing the right colors for your decor is essential. The colors you choose for your accessories and bedding should complement each other. If you are planning on using an antique French chandelier in your bedroom, then the color chosen for your wall fixture should be the same as the accent wall color or the color of your chandelier. If you are planning on using wrought iron accents, then the finish of your furniture (such as your bed or dresser) should be the same as your wall color. This combination of color and finish provides a warm, inviting environment in a small bedroom space.
For your headboard, you will want to choose a distressed, weathered, or aged finish. Distressed and weathered wood makes an old, worn appearance that is very attractive in a shabby chic bedroom. Using solid colors, like browns, creams, or white, will help your choice of headboard appear more sophisticated. Pair a floral patterned headboard with a solid colored bed skirt or curtains for a casual look.
To complete your shabby chic bedroom decor, you may notice that many antique furnishings are already stained or have worn parts. You can either purchase these pieces new or restore them yourself. A wonderful way to find and purchase antiques that are still in excellent condition is to visit flea markets and thrift stores. Hobby sellers may also sell interesting used decorative items that are well-kept and that will complement your theme.
In addition to choosing an interesting theme and an aged or distressed finish, your shabby, small bedroom will benefit from some timeless, basic elements. The bed linen should be in pale pastel colors, in order to soften the room. White bedding is a great choice, especially if you have an antique farmhouse theme. White bedding works especially well when paired with delicate floral patterns or lace accents. You may also choose to add a few throw pillows in varying, whimsical colors that coordinate with your bed linen and chandelier.
The accent piece for your shabby chic bedroom is the headboard. The size and style of the headboard will depend on your personal preference. In my case, I decided to use a unique hand-carved floral pattern on the top of the headboard. The natural wood of the headboard was stained in a light honey beige color. The floral pattern was engraved in relief on the back of the headboard using a tiny hammer and chisel, and it was in a lovely round oval. The wood portion of the headboard was left unstained.
The second element of the shabby chic style that we added was a large rustic wooden picture frame. I found this frame online at Amish inspired crafts. The beautiful, distressed wood print was done in a deep blue shade. I wanted to keep the frame simple, so I chose a floral pattern with alternating leaves. This pattern is very easy to create on your own; you just need to purchase or make a simple floral pattern to match your bed linen and your rustic wooden furniture.
The final element of our shabby chic bedroom had to be the largest item in the room, the bed. I found this beautiful shabby chic bed at a thrift store. It had been painted in a pastel pink color with lots of pebbles scattered throughout. The frame was made from thick wooden planks that were painted a pale sandy color. The overall look and feel of this bedroom, as well as the entire house, were perfect!
